Gifted and Talented Fifteen students from Years 7 to 10 attended a holiday programme in Auckland. This was successful and provided opportunities for our students to meet new challenges and mix well with students from other parts of New Zealand. Congratulations to Rawiri Waihape who attained an all round excellence award. All students performed with credit. I acknowledge the work of Mrs Smith in organising the trip and Ms Sheridan and Mr Guy Taylor for supervising.
Activate (Cooking) Samantha Mogford, Liam Brady and Tutere Rewi represented Wairoa College in the event held in Wellington. Fifty schools entered and Wairoa reached the final eight. Congratulations to the three students and thank you to Mrs Murphy who chaperoned the team.
Japanese Trip There was another successful cultural exchange to Kitaibaraki. Several students, accompanied by Mr and Mrs Galvan spent a fortnight visiting and experiencing aspects of Japanese culture.
Skiing / Snowboarding Mr Taylor organised a snow experience for a group of students.
“Illuminous Flow” Their success in the Pacifica Beats competition has been well documented. Congratulations to all involved and thank you to those staff and community members who assisted.
Academic success congratulations to three students who were successful in the Australian Mathematics Competition. This is an international competition testing general mathematic skills and problem solving. Georgia Underhill and Freya Wilson gained CREDIT awards, and Cuilodair gained DISTINCTION which put him in the top 15% of all who participated.
Sporting successes Congratulations to: Craig Kirwan who won four medals at the National Surf Life Saving championships; (1 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze) Maria Hiko and Marie-June Taiapa who were selected to play in the Poverty Bay Girls’ |
